You Were...Before

Before you took your first breath.

Before your heartbeat was ever heard.

Before your name was spoken aloud by anyone on this earth

you were already known by God.

Sacred Scripture tells us, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.” (Jeremiah 1:5)

Not noticed.

Not discovered.

Not guessed at.

Knew.

Long before the world formed opinions about you, God had already formed you. Before your successes or failures, before your joys or wounds, before your faith was strong or fragile God saw you clearly and completely. And when He saw you, He chose to create you. That means something we    often forget: you were a gift before you were ever given to the world.

You are not an accident of history or a product of randomness. God does not create without intention. He does not rush. He does not make mistakes. What He placed within you your temperament, your compassion, your resilience, your way of seeing the world was entrusted to you for a reason.

Even your struggles are not wasted. God knew the burdens you would carry and the sins you would battle. He knew the moments when you would doubt your worth or question your place. None of that surprised Him. And still He created you. Still He called you good.

This truth is comforting, but it is also challenging.

If you were created on purpose, then your life cannot be lived casually.

If you were a gift, then you are meant to be given.

If God formed you with intention, then He calls you to live intentionally.

You were not created merely to get through the days, avoid trouble, or keep faith private and safe. You were created to reflect God’s love through how you speak, how you forgive, how you serve, and how you see others. To live as though your life matters is to live as though other lives matter too.

So ask yourself this week:

Am I living like someone who knows they were created on purpose?

Do my choices reflect gratitude for the gift I am?

Am I offering my life back to God, or simply holding onto it?

You were before you were—and that means your life still has meaning right now. Not someday. Not when everything is perfect. Now.

God does not give meaningless gifts. And He has not finished with you yet.

Loving God,

Before we ever knew You, You knew us.

Before we ever chose You, You chose us.

Help us to believe that we were created with intention and love.

When we forget our worth, remind us that we are Your gift to the world.

When we grow comfortable or afraid, stir our hearts to live with purpose.

Teach us to offer our lives back to You

in how we love, how we serve, and how we trust.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Blessings, and may you always know what a gift you are!

Deacon Mike
