We Are an Easter People

There is a powerful truth at the heart of our faith, a truth often repeated but not always fully lived: we are an Easter people. That means our identity is not rooted in Good Friday alone, but in the victory that comes on Easter Sunday the triumph of life over death, hope over despair, and light over darkness through Jesus Christ.

And today, we are witnessing something remarkable. More and more people are    coming home, entering into the Catholic Church, searching for truth, longing for something deeper. You can see it in RCIA classes, in full pews, in hearts that are restless until they rest in Him. This is not by accident. This is the movement of the Holy Spirit.

But let’s be honest where grace is abundant, resistance is real.

I’ve had conversations with several people lately, and there is a shared sense that the enemy is working overtime. The pull away from God is subtle, persistent, and sometimes even overwhelming. Distractions, doubts, discouragement—these are not random. They are attempts to pull us away from the very truth that sets us free.

And I’ll be candid I’ve felt it myself.

There are moments when I can sense that pressure, that quiet voice trying to distract, divide, or weaken   resolve. It reminds us that the spiritual life is not passive. We are in a battle, not against flesh and blood, but against forces that do not want us to live as Easter people.

But here is the key: the battle has already been won.

Through the Cross and the Resurrection, Christ has defeated sin and death. The enemy’s power is real but it is not ultimate. And that is why we must remain vigilant. We must be aware of the ways we are being pulled away—through complacency, through noise, through the slow drift from prayer and sacrament.

To be an Easter people means we live with eyes wide open.

It means we recognize the struggle, but we do not fear it. It means we stay rooted in prayer, grounded in the Eucharist, and anchored in truth. It means when we feel the pull away, we lean in closer to Christ, not drift further.

Because Easter is not just a day it is a way of life.

We are called to live as people of the Resurrection. People of hope. People who know that no darkness, no temptation, no attack can overcome the light of Christ.

So stay alert. Stay close. Stay faithful. And never forget we are not just people who celebrate Easter.

We are an Easter people. Alleluia.

Blessings,

Deacon Mike
