| Liturgy of the Word
for Children |
|
|
Dear Parents,
Holy Family
Parish has supported a special Children's Liturgy of the Word
since August of 1993. Children age 4 to 12 are invited to hear
God's Word in a language they can understand. All children age
4 to 12 are invited and should participate.
Each week
your child will receive a SUNDAY Family Leaflet. These weekly
leaflets will help you share the message of the Sunday scripture
readings with your family through the whole week following the
Sunday celebration.
Our children
already enjoy a rich spiritual life. That life can be a source
of grace for the entire family. We can all nurture our spiritual
lives by reflecting on God's Word which is the main feature of
each SUNDAY Family Leaflet.
The SUNDAY
Family Leaflets are intended to help your family meditate on
God's Word. Encourage your child to color or paint the picture-story
illustration.

|
. |
| Every week, the leaflet brings to your child: |
|
. |
|
1. An Illustration
of the gospel story, designed for children to add color as a
meditation activity. Each illustration helps to reveal the message
of the scriptures especially to younger children who are still
learning to read.
2. The Sunday
gospel and sometimes the Old Testament reading adapted in language
children understand. Occasional prayers based on the Sunday scriptures
or the liturgical season.
4. Occasional
description of new words or important biblical people, places
and events found in the Sunday's readings.
5. Occasional
space for the child's own response in prayer or action.

|
. |
| How you can use the leaflets: |
|
. |
|
1. Share
the Good News
Parent and
child talk about the Bible reading and what it means. Reflect
on God's Word at mealtime or at bedtime as part of your family's
evening prayer.
|
|
. |
|
2. Sing
/ Pray the Good News
Create a
prayer in response to God's Word. (Often our children return
home singing the response they sang at Mass; incorporate this
song in your family prayer through-out the week.) Use the prayer
morning or evening prayers.
|
|
. |
|
3. Draw
the Good News
Invite your
child to draw a picture of the Bible story or you child's response
to God's Word. Color the pictures in the Family Leaflets. (Watercolor
pens and color pencils work best.)
|
|
. |
|
4. Learn
more about the Good News
Read and
talk about the new words that appear occasionally in the leaflets.
|
|
. |
|
5. Display
the Good News
Have your
child display the colored leaflets on the refrigerator or on
the wall in your child's room-a daily reminder to follow God's
Word.
